Book 3: Fourth Wing

Synopsis:

This is the first book in the Empyrean series. It is a novel of the high fantasy genre that revolves around a young girl named Violet Sorrengail. She is enrolled at Basgiath War College, whee she trains to become a Scribe. However, her mother has other plans for her, and forces her to try out as a dragon rider. Despite her small and weak body, she somehow passes the test, and joins the fourth quadrant. Since her mother is ranked quite high, she immediately makes enemies, and has to watch her back constantly. The moment she joins, she is warned by others that a certain guy is trying to kill her out of revenge for something that occurred in the past. Now when a female character is warned about a male character, you just know that they are going to end up together. So they spend pretty much the entire book flirting with each other. Their relationship becomes even closer when they discover that the dragons that they have been paired with are mated to each other, which means that they are basically stuck together. Throughout the entire book, she trains alongside the other members of her quadrant to fight in a deadly ongoing war in her country while trying not to get backstabbed by certain members of her team.

My thoughts:

To be honest, I didn’t really enjoy this book. Describing the plot as unrealistic would be a complete understatement. Violet is described as being incredibly weak and fragile, and she somehow not only passes the test, but also rises in the ranks to become one one of the most powerful dragon riders ever? I get that YA fantasy novels are supposed to be unrealistic, but it was just a little bit too much for me. The writing style was so-so, and I had a decent time reading it.
