Synopsis:
This is not actually a published book. I found it on a subreddit called “Nosleep”, which is a place where people can anonymously upload their self-written horror stories. As a huge fan of the horror genre, I often browse this subreddit. This story immediately caught my eye because of its unique name and high number of comments. It is written in a blog format with 9 different parts to it. It is set somewhere in India, with cultural references included. The story basically goes like this: A man wakes up in a giant cylinder surrounded by a large group of people, with all of them being submerged in water. His entire row then gets transported to a dry room where they are informed that they must play a game in order to survive and go home. Each player is given a colour, and they must work as a team in order to go through various different games that test their physical, mental, and emotional strength. Along the way, surprises are revealed as the backstories of the players come to light and show why they were captured. At the end of each game, they are given time to record the events, which is where the story gets told through. The narrator occasionally changes, and several deaths are also included.
My thoughts: This series was SO GOOD! I enjoyed it so much that I reread it a second time, which is quite rare since I don’t normally reread books. It had all kinds of twists and turns, and did an excellent portrayal of human nature. A lot of the characters’ decisions that they made were very frustrating to read, but made sense because of their situation and emotions. The descriptions of the characters’ feelings were also very well done. The blog-style posts were quite unique and made it stand out in comparison to other stories.
